About Purslane

Purslane is a Brooklyn-based hospitality group running a portfolio of restaurants and event venues — including Rucola, Rhodora, June, Anaïs, and the Prospect Park Boathouse — alongside an off-premise catering operation that produces weddings, corporate events, and private parties across New York City. Our food is seasonal, ingredient-driven, and built on relationships with the farmers and producers we've worked with for years. Our team is tight-knit, professional, and genuinely cares about the work.
The Role

We're hiring a part-time catering driver to move food, equipment, and event supplies between our commissary, our venues, and event sites across the five boroughs (and occasionally beyond). You'll be the person who makes sure everything our chefs and event captains need shows up on time and in the right condition. This is a great role for someone who's reliable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in getting things from A to B without drama.

This is a driving-focused role with hands-on load-in and load-out work — no on-site event service, no warehouse prep.

What You'll Do

• Safely drive a Purslane-provided cargo van or box truck between our commissary, venues, and event locations across NYC
• Load the vehicle at the commissary using prepared packout lists — verifying counts, securing items, and protecting food temperatures (hot, cold, and frozen)
• Unload at the event site, deliver items to the staging area, and confirm receipt with the on-site lead
• Return to the commissary for the load-out pickup at the end of service, secure dirty equipment and rentals, and unload back at the warehouse
• Maintain the vehicle: keep it clean, gassed up, and report any mechanical issues immediately
• Communicate clearly with dispatch, event captains, and the kitchen team — especially when traffic, parking, or timing changes
• Follow all DOT, food-safety, and Purslane handling protocols

What We're Looking For

• Valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUIs, no major moving violations in the last 3 years)
• Comfortable driving cargo vans and small box trucks in NYC traffic, including narrow streets, tight loading docks, and event-site curbside drops
• Physically able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, navigate stairs with hand trucks and rolling carts, and stay on your feet during load-in / load-out
• Reliable and on-time — our events run on tight windows and a late driver puts the whole event at risk
• A working smartphone for navigation, dispatch updates, and photo confirmation of deliveries
• Available evenings and weekends — events can fall on any day of the week
• Bonus: prior catering, food-service, or event-logistics driving experience
• Bonus: familiarity with Brooklyn and Manhattan event venues, hotels, and loading-dock logistics

Schedule

Part-time, event-driven. Shifts are typically 6–10 hours and concentrated Thursday through Sunday, with a mix of mornings, afternoons, and evenings depending on the event calendar. We share the schedule 1–2 weeks in advance and schedule shifts based on your availability.

Compensation & Perks

• $22–$26 / hour, depending on experience
• Paid via W2, with overtime when applicable
• Free shift meals when working out of the commissary
